My Top 5 Trader Joe's Self Care Essentials
It took me about a half a century to realize the importance of self care, but I am getting started now.
I work at Trader Joe's, and one of the 725,404,527 reasons I love my job is the HABA (Health And Beauty Aids) we sell at our stores. None of our beauty products are tested on animals, which is very important to me. Just so everyone knows, I am NOT compensated by TJ's for reviews and I purchased all of the products I talk about.
Let me introduce you to 5 of my current favorites.
5.The Almond Ginger Scent Oatmeal Exfoliant Bar
This 8.8 ounce soap has been around for the last 20 years. Over a half pound of high quality French soap for $2.99. When you break it down, that's less than 35¢ per ounce.
I love the feel of the small exfoliating bits of almond that sloughs off my body's dry skin and daily grime caused by high Texas heat, and the pleasant fragrance isn't overwhelming or overly perfumey.
4.Supreme Hydrating Eye Cream
I can vouch that this cream is rich and moisturizing, and it absorbs easily into the area around my eyes without a greasy or white residue. I squeeze a tiny amount onto my ring finger and gently apply it by dabbing it onto my eyelids and under my eyes, in an effort to (hopefully) combat future wrinkles. It is said to also "unpuff" eye puffiness, and reduce dark circles. A good night's sleep is my recommendation to prevent those last two. Priced surprisingly lower than comparable eye creams, the $5.99 price for a .53 ounce tube is a quarter of the price of other brands. It's made with quality ingredients that include CoQ10, almond, hydrolyzed marine collagen, hibiscus extract, argan, rosehip, marula seed oils, and Manuka honey.
3. Nourish Microdermabrasion Scrub
Oh, how I love this gem. I keep a tube in the shower and use it about once a week or post workout. It's gentle and creamy with finely ground pumice that exfoliates your face of sweat, dry skin, or daily pollution in the city. I use a dollop about the size of a dime, rub my hands together to distribute it, then massage it into my face and neck for a minute or so, and rinse my face. It's only $4.99 for a 2 ounce tube. It gives my face a fresh glow that is soft and vibrant, which makes me feel kinda CUTE!
2. Enrich Moisturizing Face Lotion
Daily moisturizer is a must at any age and especially necessary in Texas weather. This product has been around since 2009, contains sunscreen and it's enriched (hence the name "Enrich,") with Vitamins A, C and E. It absorbs nicely into my face and doesn't leave any greasy, white residue like some face lotions do. $3.99 for four fragrance free ounces of Enrich.
1. Coconut Body Butter and Brazil Nut Body Butter. The Brazil Nut Body Butter is quite a celebrity. It premiered at Trader Joe's last year and took Tik Tok by storm because it was said by many to be a duplicate of Sol de Janeiro's pricier Bum Bum Cream. Aside from the difference in price (ours is $5.99 for 8 ounces and Bum Bum Cream $22 for 2.5 ounces at Sephora) the bum bum is thicker in consistency, so Brazil Nut Body Butter soaks into skin more rapidly and without a greasy feeling.
BNBB has a pleasant fragrance like a combination of caramel, pistachios, vanilla and coconut.it smells like summer. It's ingredient list is impressive and contains Shea Butter, acai extract, coconut oil and guarana extract, which are very similar to the more expensive version sold elsewhere. This body butter is a seasonal item and quantities are limited during the summer months only. You can't buy it at Trader Joe's again until summer 2023. Sorry, folks.
Also tied for my number one slot, is the coconut body butter that is $5.99 per 8 ounce container. This product has been sold year round at Trader Joe's for the last 10 years, and of the two body butters, the Coconut is my favorite, but I switch to the Brazil Nut during the summer. The Coconut Body Butter has Shea Butter, coconut oil, vitamin B and aloe vera among it's list of quality ingredients. Lotion of this size would be well over double our price at a national chain famous for it's bath and body products.
